The Learning Environment
The environment at Fisher's SuperKids is set up for the highest quality of learning. The design of the classrooms, the decoration, equipment, textbooks, teachers, teaching philosophy, and extracurricular activities all fit together well to keep students' interest high and reduce stress from a heavy workload at school. Fisher's SuperKids not only focuses on building a strong English foundation for the students now, but also takes great interest in their well-being. We want students to feel loved and valuable at a young age and come to value learning English--including certain values and ways of communicating with English--as a great application for future endeavors when older.
In addition, Fisher's SuperKids desires to see happiness for the whole family. We understand that our students' confidence and view of life is first built upon his/her experiences at home with parents first, then siblings and the extended family. With this in mind, Fisher's SuperKids creates outings, special programs and school gatherings where family is included.
Classrooms
The nine classrooms are designed ideally for sixteen students each. The walls are well insulated for heat and sound. All rooms are air-conditioned and fully equipped with flat screen TVs, DVD and cassette players, speakers and other teaching aids. Each room is uniquely and beautifully decorated with murals and posters to create a positive and relaxing feel and excitement for the students.
Computer lab and library
This is one of the favorite places for the students, before and after class, where they can easily access an array of interesting and helpful websites for children from www.fishersuperkids.com . A rich source of online activities from coloring to stories, listening, and many others will enhance the intake of English and be a nice addition to the time students spend with the teacher in the classroom. While in the lab, students may also select books and magazines written specifically for young readers of English. Most of these books come directly from America and are intended to motivate children to keep learning and discovering new things. The library section includes a large area for Children's Readings, and two smaller areas for Parent's Reading and Teacher's Reading.
Our philosophy of learning: “Learning by doing”
With this in mind, teachers at Fisher's SuperKids place great emphasis on helping students develop skills and competence through a variety of interesting activities including songs, chants, games and teamwork. “Learning by doing” is appropriately used by teachers to provide the most opportunities for student to use English in and out of class.
At Fisher's SuperKids, the ultimate goal is to enable Vietnamese students (ages four to fifteen) the ability to comprehend well what is being said and communicate fluently and confidently with good pronunciation--all in English. Children four to six years old will have the advantage of developing an authentic native-like accent when studying over the years at our center with native English speaking teachers.
Materials and teaching Aids
Careful thoughts are made in selecting course materials to meet the needs of each age group. All books are original, in color, and used with lots of other aids such as colorful flash cards, DVDs, cassettes, wall charts and posters to make learning most fun and effective.
Tracking students' progress and staying in touch with parents
Each class has a Vietnamese academic staff assigned to provide assistance to the foreign teacher, keep track of students' activities and regularly update parents on their children's progress. This prevents any students from falling behind or going unnoticed in any other learning situations and helps ensure all students are making good progress.
Test and evaluation
Students are tested on a variety of skills at the end of each course to evaluate their progress. Each student is expected to score an average four out of five stars for each skill in order to pass to the next level. A joint parent-student-teacher meeting is held so that the teacher can share with parents the results of the evaluation. During this meeting, the teacher reviews key points in the course materials and has students “show off” what they have learned.
